Description

Adrian Rojas Mata Ortiz Hand-Coiled Geometric Olla – 9.5”

Exceptional hand-coiled and hand-painted Mata Ortiz olla by Adrian Rojas, a master potter from the Casas Grandes region of northern Mexico. This elegant vessel features a rounded body with a gently flared rim, finished in warm terracotta and cream mineral slips. Rojas’s precise craftsmanship is showcased through an intricate hand-painted grid of micro-geometric forms, accented by a bold diamond band and circular medallions with stylized lightning motifs near the shoulder.

The composition demonstrates perfect symmetry and rhythm — the diagonal grid produces a subtle sense of motion, balanced by structured horizontal banding. Rooted in the ancient Paquimé design tradition yet executed with contemporary refinement, this olla exemplifies Rojas’s ability to merge mathematical precision with visual harmony. Signed on the underside: “Adrian Rojas.”

A superb mid-sized example of modern Casas Grandes artistry, combining traditional technique with striking optical geometry — an outstanding addition for collectors of fine Mexican or Southwestern pottery.
