Description

Signed & Dated 1984 New Mexico Hand-Carved Solid Wood Demilune Console Table

Superbly crafted solid wood demilune console table, signed and dated “PAT 84,” attributed to a New Mexico artisan woodworker active in the mid-1980s. This finely constructed piece exemplifies high-caliber regional craftsmanship, blending traditional Southwestern motifs with classic furniture design. The table features a hand-carved apron with geometric and floral patterning, executed with precision and depth, demonstrating the maker’s confident toolwork and aesthetic restraint.

Built entirely from solid wood, the console showcases careful joinery, 1.75-inch hand-turned rope-twist legs, and a lower semicircular display shelf—each component shaped, fitted, and finished by hand. The finished back underscores the maker’s commitment to complete, all-around quality, allowing placement anywhere in a room. The rich natural grain of the wood is accentuated by a warm, clear finish that reveals the fine texture and color variation inherent to the material.

Balancing sculptural form with functional integrity, this table embodies the enduring craftsmanship associated with New Mexico’s artisan traditions—where utility and artistry converge. Its timeless design and exceptional build make it equally suitable as an entryway focal point, hall accent, or display table.

Condition:

In good condition overall, showing surface scratches and light wear to the top, consistent with age and use. Structurally sturdy, with sound joints and no movement or instability. The carved details remain sharp and well-preserved, and the finish retains an attractive patina.
