Hand-carved solid Ponderosa pine bench, signed “LM” on the underside. The thick, contoured seat and curved backrest are shaped in flowing organic lines and accented by a genuine turquoise inlay set into a natural knot—an homage to New Mexico’s Southwestern craft tradition.
The design reflects the Southwestern Studio Craft / Organic Modern style, blending rustic material honesty with sculptural modern form. Its fluid ergonomics and hand-finished surfaces evoke the American Studio Craft Movement, recalling the work of Sam Maloof and George Nakashima while maintaining a distinctly regional identity. Built with pegged mortise-and-tenon joinery and a hand-rubbed oil finish, this piece bridges art and function—an exceptional statement for entry, gallery, or collection.
