A magnificent pottery jar by Melissa Concho Antonio (Acoma Pueblo, New Mexico), celebrated for her award-winning mastery of traditional Acoma form and painting. This impressive vessel, measuring 8.5 inches high by 11 inches in diameter, features dynamic deer and bear motifs encircling the body—symbols of strength, renewal, and spiritual balance. The creatures are framed by bold floral and geometric flourishes in black and rich rust-orange over a luminous white slip, the classic palette of Acoma Pueblo.

A member of the Red Corn and Sun Clans, Antonio was trained within a distinguished family of potters and has earned top honors at the New Mexico State Fair and other juried shows. Her work is featured in museum and gallery collections, including the Gorman Museum of Native American Art. Each piece is hand-coiled from native clay, pit-fired, and painted with mineral pigments—a demanding process that honors centuries-old Acoma tradition while showcasing her distinct artistic voice.
