Impressive Pepe Santiago Armadillo Alebrije – Hand-Carved Oaxacan Folk Art
This impressive, large-scale armadillo alebrije is a vibrant example of traditional Oaxacan folk art, signed “Pepe, Santiago" on the underside. Hand-carved from copal wood and intricately painted in San Martín Tilcajete, Oaxaca, it captures the region’s celebrated artistry and bold imagination.
The sculpture features richly detailed hand-painted patterns in vivid hues of green, red, pink, and yellow, accented with floral motifs and fine dot work. Its substantial form and integrated, non-removable tail emphasize both craftsmanship and artistic ambition. A commanding piece that showcases the expressive spirit and technical mastery of Oaxacan alebrijes.

Excellent overall, with only minor paint transfer noted on the underside (feet). Colors remain vivid and well-defined.

Approx. 17" L × 8" W × 22" H
Weight: 11.5 lbs
(Soup can shown in photo for scale.)
