Description

Ann Peck Pastel “Maiden of the Mesa”

Acoma Maiden, Signed, Framed, COA -- 1995

Original pastel painting by New Mexico artist Ann Peck, created in 1995. This evocative work depicts an Acoma Pueblo maiden in traditional black manta dress, her hair styled in the distinctive maiden fashion, cradling a boldly decorated water jar painted in classic Pueblo geometric motifs. Set against the warm adobe walls of a mesa village, the composition highlights themes of heritage, continuity, and cultural identity. Peck’s use of soft yet vivid pastels conveys both intimacy and reverence, making the work a striking tribute to Acoma traditions.

The painting is signed and dated lower right, with a Certificate of Authenticity affixed verso.
