Ann Peck Pastel “Little Fancy Dancer”
Native Child Portrait, Signed, Framed, COA — 1997
Original pastel painting by New Mexico artist Ann Peck, completed in 1997. This charming portrait depicts a young Native American child in powwow regalia—rose blouse, strands of turquoise and shell beads, a feathered headdress, and ceremonial feathers in hand. With painted cheeks and a radiant smile, the child is shown mid-celebration. Peck’s vibrant pastel technique highlights intricate beadwork, feathers, and textiles while conveying warmth and cultural pride.
The title refers to the Fancy Dance, a high-energy powwow tradition known for bright regalia, fast footwork, and expressive movement. Portraying a young “little fancy dancer,” Peck honors both the joy of childhood and the continuity of cultural heritage.
The painting is signed lower right and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity dated April 1997, affixed verso. It is professionally framed in a rustic wood frame with plexiglass and triple matting, ready for display.

Peck’s art emphasizes authenticity, blending research with sensitivity to respectfully portray Native and Hispanic lifeways.
Condition
Good overall. Pastel colors remain vivid and surface intact. Some faint debris is visible behind the plexiglass, but it does not detract from presentation. Frame and matting are stable and well presented.
