Description

Rectangular plate by American ceramic artist John J. Freimarck (b. 1942), known for his high-fired stoneware produced in Virginia beginning in the 1970s. This plate is decorated with a hand-painted butterfly and sweeping abstract brushstrokes in cobalt blue, plum, and earthy tones. The decoration exemplifies Freimarck’s signature style, combining natural motifs with bold, calligraphic gestures influenced by Asian brushwork.  Collectors of American studio ceramics value Freimarck’s work for its craftsmanship and distinctive painterly decoration.
