Vintage Navajo Sterling Sandcast Concho Belt – 12 Conchos + Buckle, 1960s–70s
A vintage Navajo sandcast sterling silver concho belt dating to the 1960s–70s. This striking piece features twelve scalloped conchos plus a matching buckle, each with a radiating petal cutout design, mounted on a black leather strap. Made in the sandcast tradition, the belt reflects the strength and artistry of Navajo silverwork in the mid-20th century.
Each concho measures approximately 2.1 inches wide by 2 inches tall, with the buckle of matching size. Together, the conchos and buckle weigh a substantial 373.46 grams of tested sterling silver. The leather strap is 38 inches long and 1.5 inches wide, fitting waists from 25 to 36.5 inches. From a Las Cruces collection of fine Native American jewelry (assembled between the 1940s and late 1990s). An old price of $1,239 is still marked on the back of the buckle, offering a glimpse into the belt’s history of valuation and desirability.
Concho belts are among the most iconic forms of Navajo jewelry, prized by collectors for their craftsmanship and bold design. This vintage example stands out as both wearable art and a significant collectible.
Condition:
Good vintage condition, with no damage to the silver. Natural tarnish and light surface wear consistent with age; polishing is left to the buyer’s discretion. Leather strap shows creasing from use but remains sturdy and functional. Strap appears original to the piece.
