Offered is a pair of vintage Santo Domingo Pueblo (Kewa) turquoise necklaces, each crafted in the traditional heishi beadmaking style. The strands are composed of hand-rolled turquoise beads, graduating in size for balance and visual depth. The first measures 16.5 inches in length (21.3 g) with beads from 3.6 mm to 6.4 mm, while the second is 18.25 inches (17.5 g) with beads ranging 3.3 mm to 5.3 mm. Both are strung on cotton cord and finished with 6.1 mm sterling silver bench beads and traditional hook clasps.
Santo Domingo Pueblo is renowned as the birthplace of heishi jewelry, one of the oldest continuous beadmaking traditions in North America. These necklaces embody that heritage, with turquoise carefully shaped and smoothed into uniform beads, then graduated for a graceful drape. The strands can be worn separately or together for a layered Southwestern look.
