Jeff Kuhns Studio Pottery Bowl – Split Glaze, 13.5"
Large studio pottery bowl by New Mexico ceramic artist Jeff Kuhns, recognized for his high-fire stoneware and functional yet artistic designs. This hand-thrown piece features a dramatic split-glaze surface, one half a rich plum red and the other a soft cream, accented with painterly brushstrokes in blue and ochre and a central spiral motif. The wide rim carries earthy brown tones, while subtle ridging along the body highlights its wheel-thrown craftsmanship.
Kuhns studied at the University of California, San Diego, and his work has been represented by respected galleries such as Worthington Gallery. Known for lead-free, food-safe glazes, his bowls balance utility and artistry, making them equally suited for serving or display. At 13.5 inches in diameter and 8 lbs in weight, this substantial example is closely comparable to his large gallery pieces, often priced in the $60–$75 range, with the distinctive split-glaze design offering additional collector appeal.
