Description

Hank Claycamp Mt. St. Helens Ash Glass Handkerchief Vase – Signed 700/2000

Limited-edition handkerchief vase by Hank Claycamp, inscribed on the base “Hank MSH CIC 700/2000.” Crafted using Claycamp’s proprietary technique of incorporating volcanic ash from Mount St. Helens, this series—known as Ash Glassworks—was developed after the 1980 eruption and quickly became celebrated for its fusion of natural history with studio artistry. The flowing, ruffled silhouette and layered marbled hues of lavender, plum, and pearlescent white are enriched with iridescent highlights that shift with the light.

The “MSH” in the signature denotes Mount St. Helens, while “CIC” refers to the studio line under which these works were produced. Limited editions were released in numbered series, with this example marked 700/2000. Claycamp’s Mt. St. Helens ash glass has since become highly collectible, prized not only for its sculptural presence but also for its connection to a pivotal natural event in U.S. history. This piece embodies both artistry and provenance, making it an appealing acquisition for collectors of contemporary studio glass.
