Jon Carlos Lopez Victorian House Wall Planter – 1970s Bennington Pottery
This striking wall planter was designed in the 1970s by Jon Carlos Lopez, a studio potter closely associated with Bennington Potters of Vermont. Lopez was known for his innovative slab-built forms, combining sculptural presence with functional design. His Victorian House series is among his most recognizable works, using bold black linework to capture the architectural details of historic homes, set against a softly glazed ceramic ground.
Each piece was handmade, giving subtle variations in texture, glaze, and firing that highlight its artisanal character. Signed Lopez on the reverse, this example reflects the period’s revival of architectural motifs in decorative ceramics and remains a testament to the creativity of the American studio pottery movement. Both decorative and practical, it is equally suited for hanging display or use as a planter.
