Description

Cast Brass Foo Dog Incense Burner & Ritual Bell

A cast brass pair consisting of a Foo Dog incense burner and a ritual bell, both richly decorated in traditional Asian style. The incense burner is of square form raised on four legs, its body adorned with repeating shield and scroll motifs, and the domed lid pierced with quatrefoil openings and surmounted by a finely modeled Foo Dog finial, symbolizing guardianship and protection. The ritual bell features a flared body with garland and lotus motifs, and a handle surmounted by a crowned deity’s head beneath a stylized vajra form. The bell retains its clapper and produces a resonant tone.

Condition

In good condition overall with surface wear, verdigris, and patina consistent with age and use. Old repair noted to the bell handle. Some rubbing to the gilding and minor casting irregularities, as expected. Structurally sound and complete.

Dimensions

  • Incense Burner: 5.5 x 4 x 3.5 inches, 3 lbs
  • Bell: 6.5 x 3.75 inches, 1 lb
