Vintage Alpine Landscape Oil Painting
Mid-20th century Alpine landscape oil on canvas, signed Wacba at the lower right. The composition depicts a rustic chalet beside a reflective lake, framed by tall evergreens and snow-capped peaks. Executed with textured impasto brushwork, the piece captures both atmosphere and depth in the rugged mountain scenery.
The painting is set in a carved wood and gesso frame with gilt finish, richly ornamented with scrolling foliate motifs. An affixed double-bulb picture light (tested and fully functional) accompanies the work, and no glass is present, leaving the surface of the paint fully visible. On the verso, the stretcher bears handwritten notations, possibly prior ownership or gallery references. While the artist “Wacba” has not been identified in major signature references, the work reflects the popular Continental style of Alpine paintings produced in the mid-20th century. A substantial decorative piece with enduring appeal.
Condition
Fair condition overall. The canvas shows craquelure, areas of paint wear, and scattered loss. The gilt frame has cracks, chips, and finish wear, with distressing consistent with both age and decorative intent. The attached double-bulb light is operational.
