Jason Litts Anatomical Landscape
Large-scale surrealist seascape by Jason Litts, signed lower left and dated 2000. This oil on stretched canvas presents a stormy maritime scene, where towering cliffs shaped with human-like contours rise above turbulent waves. A lone boat fights against the sea while a lighthouse, steadfast in the distance, casts its beacon of light. Characteristic of Litts’ style, the work blends symbolic imagery with atmospheric surrealism, creating a narrative-rich composition that balances myth, memory, and psychological resonance.
Rendered in bold strokes of blue, green, and grey, this early piece foreshadows Litts’ ongoing exploration of archetypal symbols and dreamlike settings. Its scale and dramatic subject matter make it a powerful statement work for both collectors and admirers of contemporary surrealism.

Artist Biography – Jason Litts
Jason Litts is a self-taught painter whose surreal, dreamlike imagery bridges the gap between memory, myth, and the landscapes of the subconscious. His work is recognized for its haunting atmospheres, faceless figures, and symbolic narratives that emerge from layers of glaze, light, and shadow. Deeply influenced by the Pacific Northwest, Litts draws inspiration from fog-shrouded parks, coastal terrains, and the transient light of the region. Places such as Mt. Tabor, Arnada Park, and the Oregon coast recur throughout his paintings, transformed into settings where human experience and natural mystery converge. His compositions often employ archetypal symbols—ships in bottles, ritual fires, submerged divers—that function as metaphors for desire, vulnerability, and transformation. Entirely autodidactic, Litts developed his practice outside formal training, refining his technical approach through careful observation and experimentation with pigment and glazing. This independence has shaped a unique voice—one that favors emotional truth and psychological resonance over literal depiction. Works such as Pagan Worship, Sirens Revisited, and his triptych Beyond the Grasp exemplify his ability to weave surreal symbolism into cohesive, atmospheric narratives. Litts has exhibited widely throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond, with solo and group shows at venues including the Rebecca Anstine Gallery, Art at the Cave, The Ford Gallery, and the Rio Grande Fine Art Gallery in Las Cruces, New Mexico. His work has been recognized with honors such as the Merit Award at the 2023 Anacortes Art Festival and features in the Clark County Open Studio Tour. Today, Jason Litts continues to expand his body of work with paintings and triptychs that invite viewers to enter meditative, introspective spaces. Through his exploration of impermanence, myth, and the fragile balance between concealment and revelation, his art speaks to universal human experiences of memory, loss, and longing—filtered through a surreal yet deeply personal lens.
