Antique Oak English Hunt Cabinet w/ Stained Glass & Brass Hardware
A superb English Hunt Cabinet in solid oak, dating from the late 19th century, richly hand-carved and retaining its original stained-glass panels and brass hardware. These grand cabinets were fixtures of European country estates and hunting lodges, blending artistry with utility. This example showcases the quality craftsmanship and imposing scale collectors prize.
The upper section features two stained-glass panel doors with stylized floral motifs, opening to three interior shelves. Flanking niches with spindle galleries and five additional open shelves provide ample display opportunities. The carved frieze panel and architectural detailing reflect the elaborate style associated with Victorian and Renaissance Revival furniture.
The lower section houses three dovetail-constructed drawers fitted with brass pulls, over three paneled cabinet doors enclosing two continuous interior shelves. All five locks are fully functional, and the cabinet comes with five original keys, a rare survival that enhances its collectibility. Deep oak grain, fine carving, and authentic hardware confirm its status as a true estate-quality Hunt Cabinet.
Comparable examples are increasingly scarce on the market and command premium values, with pieces of this scale and completeness often found in high-end collections. Its combination of functional storage, decorative stained glass, and hand-carved detailing makes it an exceptional statement piece for dining rooms, libraries, or galleries.
Condition
Good overall condition, structurally sound and sturdy, with wear consistent with age and use. The oak surfaces show scratches, stains, and water rings, particularly to the top. Drawer bottoms exhibit some bowing and cracks, but remain functional. All stained-glass panels are intact with no visible damage. Brass hardware and working keys appear original. Please refer to photos for a full view of wear.

Collector’s Note
English Hunt Cabinets of this caliber, retaining original stained glass, dovetailed joinery, brass fittings, and working locks with keys, are highly sought after. Market comparables range widely, but examples of this scale and craftsmanship often command $5,000–$10,000+ at auction, with particularly ornate or well-documented pieces exceeding that range.
