Pair of Katavolos, Kelley & Littell for Laverne T-Chairs, Black Leather, 1952
Designed in 1952 by William Katavolos, Douglas Kelley, and Ross Littell for Laverne International, the T-Chair is considered one of the icons of American mid-century modern design. Each chair features three chrome-plated steel legs with a T-shaped stretcher, supporting a suspended sheet of black leather that forms both seat and back. The result is a strikingly minimal yet sculptural silhouette, giving the impression of a floating seat.
Praised for its innovative construction and modernist purity, the T-Chair won the A.I.D. Award for best U.S. furniture design in 1952 and was soon acquired by the Museum of Modern Art and other major institutions worldwide. This pair offers collectors and design enthusiasts the opportunity to acquire a historically significant work that bridges industrial design with timeless elegance.
Condition
Good vintage condition, consistent with age. Chrome legs show scattered wear, oxidation, and loss to plating. Leather retains strong presence, with creasing, scuffing, and patina from use. Structurally stable and visually striking, with characterful signs of authenticity.
