Description

“Dos Alegrías las Visitas” - Talavera Mexico Ceramic Plaque

This hand-painted oval Talavera ceramic plaque from Mexico combines humor, artistry, and tradition. Inscribed in cobalt blue is the witty Spanish proverb:
“Dos Alegrías las Visitas nos dan: Una cuando llegan y la Otra cuando se van”
(“Guests give us two joys: one when they arrive, and the other when they leave”).

Surrounded by a lively floral border in rich reds, blues, yellows, and greens, it captures both humor and artistry. Two small mounting holes are built in, ready for wall display.

Spanish proverbs, or refranes, have been passed down for centuries, blending wisdom with irony. This particular saying—documented in classic collections of Spanish folk humor—reminds us of the timeless truth that hospitality is a joy, but so is peace and quiet after guests depart. What makes this plaque special is that it’s not just decorative: it tells a story, sparking smiles and conversation wherever it hangs.

Condition:
Good overall condition, with vivid painted details and only light surface wear consistent with age. Minor marks on the reverse do not affect display.

Dimensions:
10 x 13.5 inches
Weight: 12.8 oz
Shown beside a Campbell’s soup can for scale.
