Waterford Furniture Makers Rice Carved Walnut Queen Poster Bed, 1998
Solid walnut Rice Carved four-poster Queen bed by Waterford Furniture Makers, Lynchburg, Virginia, dated 1998. This maker-marked example (model 4138) features substantial 3.5-inch square posts with carved rice sheaves and ribbon detailing, rising to tall urn finials. The shaped headboard complements the classic design, and the bed assembles easily with pegged side rails for stability. A fine example of late 20th-century American craftsmanship in the traditional Southern style, reflecting Waterford’s dedication to heirloom-quality solid wood furniture. Mattress and bedding not included.
The Rice Carved form is a highly regarded American furniture tradition, originating in the Carolinas during the late 18th century. Waterford’s interpretation blends durability with elegance, making this a centerpiece suitable for both traditional and transitional interiors.
Condition:
Good condition overall, with scuffing and finish wear consistent with age and use. Minor finish loss (approx. 1-inch area) visible on the headboard, along with scattered light scratches and small areas of wear. Structurally sound and ready for use.
