Seth Thomas “Lincoln” 8-Day Weight-Driven Mantel Clock, c.1896
An imposing Seth Thomas “Lincoln” 8-day mantel clock, dating to circa 1896. This large shelf clock is powered by a weight-driven trapezoidal brass movement, striking the hours on a cathedral gong. The case rises nearly 29 inches in height, with bold architectural proportions and an original glass door. The movement is fitted with its original pulleys, pendulum stick, engraved bob, and beat scale, consistent with the Lincoln model design.
The Lincoln is one of Seth Thomas’s most desirable mantel clocks, valued for its uncommon weight-driven mechanism and superior timekeeping accuracy compared to spring-driven clocks. Closely related to the Garfield and Flora models, it represents the company’s late 19th-century focus on precision and craftsmanship. A rare opportunity to acquire one of Seth Thomas’s finest mantel clocks.
Condition
Good condition overall, with age-appropriate wear. Clock runs and keep good time. Minor surface marks to the case consistent with use. Movement, pulleys, and pendulum appear original. No major cracks, chips, or structural losses observed.
