Antique Early 20th c. Bobbin-Turned Rush-Seat Corner Chair
This charming early 20th-century corner chair exhibits traditional craftsmanship—featuring a hand-woven rush seat and bobbin-turned legs and stretchers. Designed to nestle into a room's corner, its wraparound back and distinct triangular form reflect the practical yet elegant style of Dutch or British knitting chairs of the farmhouse tradition.
These corner chairs trace their origins to 17th-century English and Dutch adaptations of early “roundabout” chairs—valued for comfort and space efficiency. They later enjoyed revival during Colonial-Revival periods as functional decorative furnishings.
Condition:
Fair. The piece shows surface scuffs, finish wear, scratches, and chipped stretchers, with some evidence of old repairs. Applied decorative arm trim is missing, contributing to its rustic, well-used character. Stable and structurally sound otherwise.
Dimensions:
Overall: 29.5" H × 27.5" W × 25.5" D
