Louis XVI Style Curly Mahogany Gueridon w/ Mother-of-Pearl Inlay, 19th C.
A late 19th-century Louis XVI style gueridon table, crafted in richly figured curly mahogany with gilt-bronze mounts. The circular top is adorned with delicate floral marquetry and mother-of-pearl inlay, a rarer decorative treatment than the more common marble tops, adding distinction and refinement. A pierced gilt-bronze gallery and rosette-mounted apron complement the elegant fluted tapering legs, joined by a shaped lower shelf with matching bronze surround.
The underside bears an original handwritten label reading “Eigentum von Sobanski, Mannheim, Schanzenstr. 9,” providing a specific continental provenance. This combination of high-quality craftsmanship and personal history makes it an engaging collector’s piece—equally suitable as a decorative accent or a candidate for sensitive restoration.
Condition:
Fair condition. Surface scuffing and finish wear consistent with age. Some losses to the mother-of-pearl inlay on the top. The table is a bit wobbly. Bronze mounts show age-appropriate patination.
Dimensions:
- Diameter: 18 in.
- Height: 29 in.
