Description

1957–1963 U.S. Proof Set Collection (8 Sets, Philadelphia Mint, Silver Coins)

Presented here is a complete run of eight original U.S. Mint Proof Sets from the Philadelphia Mint, spanning 1957 through 1963 and including two 1960 sets. Each set remains sealed in its original Mint cellophane with the signature blue U.S. Mint Philadelphia token, housed together in a handsome Whitman “Modern Proof Set Collection” album.

Each proof set includes five coins:

  • Lincoln Cent (copper)
  • Jefferson Nickel (copper-nickel)
  • Roosevelt Dime (90% silver)
  • Washington Quarter (90% silver)
  • Franklin Half Dollar (90% silver)

Together, the dime, quarter, and half dollar in each set contain 0.3617 troy oz. of silver, for a combined total of nearly 2.9 troy oz. silver across the eight sets. These proof coins were specially struck on polished planchets with greater pressure, yielding the mirrorlike surfaces and sharp detail that distinguish proof coinage.

The Franklin Half Dollar—featured in every set from 1957 through 1963—is a highlight for collectors, marking the final years before the Kennedy Half Dollar debuted in 1964.

Beyond their intrinsic silver value, these proof sets represent a highly collectible silver-era run of U.S. Mint history. Interest surged during this period—1957 marked the first time proof sales topped one million sets, reflecting the growing enthusiasm of mid-century collectors. Each set is a time capsule of American craftsmanship, artistry, and history during a pivotal era.

Condition

Coins remain in original Mint-sealed proof packaging, displaying brilliant mirrored fields and frosted devices, with some natural toning possible from long-term storage. Album shows light shelf wear but remains clean and protective.

Dimensions
