Description

Zuni Sterling Silver & Turquoise Cluster Cuff Bracelet, J.S. Bellson

An exceptional Zuni cuff bracelet signed by noted artisan J. Shirley Bellson, celebrated for his mastery of turquoise needlepoint work during the mid-20th century. This substantial piece features seventy-four slender turquoise cabochons, each meticulously hand-cut in the classic needlepoint style—long and narrow with finely pointed ends—carefully set in serrated bezels. The stones are arranged in radiant cluster formations, framed with twisted silver rope and accented with silver drop beads, all supported by a sturdy triple-shank band.

Bellson is widely recognized as one of the finest practitioners of Zuni needlepoint cluster jewelry, producing museum-quality work from the 1950s through the 1980s. Needlepoint, a specialized form of the petit point tradition, is distinguished by its elongated stones resembling tiny needles—an exceptionally labor-intensive style that demonstrates the precision and artistry of Zuni lapidary craftsmanship. This bracelet embodies that cultural legacy, marrying bold silverwork with delicate stone setting in a piece of timeless elegance and collectability.
