Description

Vintage Navajo Sterling Silver & Turquoise Concho Belt, c.1950 Pawn

A classic mid-20th century Navajo concho belt, crafted in sterling silver with vivid natural turquoise cabochons, mounted on a black leather strap. This vintage pawn example reflects the artistry and strength of Navajo silversmithing during the 1950s, a period when turquoise-set belts were becoming highly sought after both within Native communities and by collectors of Southwestern jewelry.

The belt is composed of seven large oval conchos, each deeply repoussé with radiating sunburst patterns and hand-stamped borders, set with turquoise cabochons in finely serrated bezels. Eight bow-shaped butterfly spacers provide rhythm and balance between the conchos, their turquoise stones adding a vibrant counterpoint.

The substantial square buckle anchors the piece, adorned with eight turquoise cabochons framed by scalloped stampwork. Every element speaks to the precision of Navajo silverwork and the importance of turquoise as a symbol of protection and cultural identity.
