Description

Shreve & Co. Sterling Hammered Silver Bowl, 10½″, 448 g, Arts & Crafts

Exceptional sterling silver bowl by Shreve & Co., San Francisco, dating to the early 20th century. The piece features a hand‑hammered Arts & Crafts–style scalloped rim, an elegant “WSB” monogram, and the hallmark “SHREVE & CO. STERLING SAN FRANCISCO” on the underside.

Generous in scale—10½″ in diameter and weighing 448 grams—this bowl stands out among typical Shreve hammered pieces, which often weigh less.

Condition

A finely hand-hammered sterling silver bowl by Shreve & Co., San Francisco, circa early 20th century. This substantial piece features a scalloped rim, a richly textured Arts & Crafts surface, and an engraved “WSB” monogram. The underside is stamped “SHREVE & CO. STERLING SAN FRANCISCO.”

At 10½ inches in diameter and weighing 448 grams, this example is notably larger and heavier than many similar Shreve bowls that have appeared at auction.

Founded in 1852, Shreve & Co. is regarded as one of America’s foremost silversmiths, with quality rivaling Tiffany & Co. Their Arts & Crafts silver, in particular, is sought by collectors for its handwrought artistry and historical significance in early 20th-century American design.
