Description

Diann Eshleman Watercolor “Buffalo Dancer”, Signed 1996, Framed 27″×21.5″

Original watercolor painting by Diann Eshleman (American, b. Amarillo, TX), signed lower right and dated 1996. The composition depicts a ceremonial Buffalo Dancer rendered in luminous tones of violet, gold, and teal, with the spectral image of a buffalo emerging in the background. The verso carries a personalized dedication: “To Otto, Best to you – Diann Eshleman, 1996.”

Professionally framed in wood with glass, this piece features distinctive custom triple matting—a deep green suede accented with gold and white borders—crafted in keeping with the Eshleman family tradition of presentation.

Artist Biography:
Diann Eshleman is a Southwestern painter celebrated for her luminous watercolors that blend cultural heritage with natural beauty. Of Cherokee, Dutch, and Irish descent, she grew up on the plains of New Mexico, where desert skies, Native traditions, and everyday life inspired her vision.

Working primarily in watercolor, Eshleman became known for her ability to evoke the Southwest’s dreamlike qualities—buffalo emerging from mist, dancers captured in ceremonial rhythm, and landscapes layered with memory and spirit. Each painting was a family collaboration: her husband, Jack, hand-crafted the frames, while her daughter, Carol, designed the matting that made every work a complete artistic presentation. Today, her paintings are held in private collections across the United States.

Condition:
Good overall. Watercolor pigments remain vivid with no noticeable fading. Frame and glass are secure, showing only minor handling wear. Verso retains the artist’s personal dedication and gallery label.
