Description

Acoma Pueblo Turkey Effigy – Signed Anita Lowden

Hand-sculpted and signed by Anita Garcia Lowden (1935–1975) of Acoma Pueblo, this miniature turkey effigy captures the charm and artistry of Pueblo pottery in an intimate scale. Lowden was a celebrated member of the Acoma artistic lineage, best known for her Mimbres Revival designs and whimsical figural creations. This piece features the classic black-on-white geometric motifs of Acoma pottery, accented with a terracotta crest and dotted feather details, forming a lively depiction of the turkey—an important symbol in Pueblo culture.

Anita Lowden’s career was tragically brief, and her effigy figures are increasingly scarce in the marketplace. Produced during the mid-20th century, her turkeys were both beloved by tourists for their playfulness and prized by collectors for their cultural authenticity. Today, they stand as delightful testaments to both tradition and individuality within Acoma pottery.
