Acoma Pueblo Miniature Pottery Jar – Delma Vallo, Hand Coiled & Painted
Signed by noted Acoma Pueblo artist Delma Vallo (b. 1935), this miniature pottery jar reflects the Pueblo’s celebrated tradition of fine-line pottery. Entirely hand coiled and hand painted, the piece features bold black sunburst designs with red terracotta geometric accents and small hummingbird motifs, symbols of beauty and vitality. The precision of the linework and the balance of the design demonstrate the extraordinary skill required to achieve such detail on a jar just 2 inches tall.
Delma Vallo, a respected member of the well-known Vallo family of potters, began her career in the mid-1950s. Her works are admired for their thin walls, intricate fine-line patterns, and cultural resonance rooted in Acoma Pueblo’s “Sky City” tradition. Larger examples of her pottery have sold for several hundred dollars, while miniatures like this are valued for their collectibility and artistry, making them excellent additions to Native American pottery collections.
