Description

Authentic Lot of 33 Native American Arrowheads – Obsidian, Chert, Quartz

This authentic lot of 33 Native American arrowheads was acquired in New Mexico during the mid-20th century and reflects centuries of Indigenous craftsmanship. These are not reproductions. Each piece was expertly hand-knapped in antiquity from materials including obsidian, chert, jasper, quartz, and flint—stones prized for their ability to hold razor-sharp edges. The collection presents a range of styles: stemmed, corner-notched, side-notched, and triangular points, from delicate half-inch forms to robust examples nearly two inches long. Colors range from deep volcanic black to rich reds, golden browns, and translucent whites.

New Mexico’s archaeological heritage is among the richest in North America. Local volcanic obsidian from the Jemez Mountains, jasper from river gravels, and high-quality chert from regional outcrops were the raw materials of choice for toolmakers spanning thousands of years. The points in this collection could date from the Late Archaic (c. 5500–AD 200) through the Woodland/Ancestral Puebloan periods (AD 500–1300), when the bow and arrow replaced the atlatl. The variety here offers a miniature study of the region’s lithic traditions and their evolution.

Whether for display, research, or as an addition to a serious artifact collection, this grouping offers both aesthetic appeal and historical significance. A U.S. quarter is shown in photos for scale.

Condition:
Good, age-appropriate wear, comes as shown. Minor edge wear and small chips are consistent with age and original use. Natural inclusions and texture variations in the stones are visible and add to authenticity.
