An original limited edition handmade paper sculpture titled Siyotanka (Love Flute) by Doug & Sandra McDonald. This is number 28 of just 95 produced and is both signed and embossed at the lower right. The piece portrays a stylized Native American courting flute—adorned with beadwork, feathers, and ribbons—cast directly into handmade paper for remarkable depth and texture. Presented in a triple-matted shadowbox style frame with plexiglass, featuring olive green, red, and taupe matting for an elegant display.
Artist Biography:
Doug & Sandra McDonald are a collaborative artist duo known for their handmade paper sculptures, created using cast and embossed techniques to give flat media a sculptural presence. Their subjects range from whimsical carousel horses to culturally significant Native American motifs, each rendered in limited editions and presented in custom shadowbox frames. Notable works include Medicine Crow (53/500), Mother and Child (26/500), and Miniature Carousel Horse (1/150). Sandra McDonald, active in the 20th century and based in Texas, also worked in landscapes and portraits before focusing on this unique mixed-media form.
Condition:
