Large Decorative Glazed Terracotta Jar with Lid – 19.5"
Substantial decorative terracotta jar in a warm ochre glaze, featuring dual high-set handles with applied snake-form coils. This commercially produced piece is intentionally distressed, with allover glaze crazing and tonal variations to evoke the charm of antique pottery. The bulbous body tapers to a small foot, and a matching domed lid with knob completes the form.
While modern in manufacture, the design draws on ancient inspirations, including the serpent-handled amphorae of Roman pottery and Mediterranean terracotta traditions. Its generous proportions and sculptural handles make it an eye-catching display piece for kitchens, cabinets, or rustic interiors.
Condition:
Good condition with deliberate surface distressing and allover crazing. One applied coil is missing from a handle (see photos). No cracks noted; wear is consistent with the decorative aged finish.
