Schwinn Passage Touring Bike – Columbus Tenax Frame, Avocet Saddle
This mid‑1980s Schwinn Passage touring bicycle offers a blend of dependable craftsmanship and classic American design. The double‑butted Columbus Tenax chromoly tubing was used from around 1986 only—just one model year—and represents the entry-level pro option in Columbus’s lineup, built in the USA by Schwinn.
With a touring‑specific long wheelbase and full complement of braze‑ons (rack mounts, bottle bosses, pump peg), it was designed for sustained comfort and utility over distance. This example wears the original “Passage” decals in dark navy blue, accented with gold “Schwinn” striping, and is factory‑equipped with an Avocet Criterium saddle and Suntour Duopar‑Eco rear derailleur for smooth gearing over extended rides.
Condition:
Good condition overall. The tires currently hold air, though the handlebar wrap is unraveling at one end and likely needs replacement. The drivetrain exhibits surface rust typical of age, and the frame shows minor scuffs and wear. Mechanics appear complete, though a standard tune‑up is recommended. Please review all provided images for full condition detail.
Dimensions:
Frame size: Approximately 22½ in (center‑to‑top) seat tube, equivalent to ~57 cm.
Wheel size: 27″.
This example measures close to documented 57 cm frames from original catalog listings
