Description

1920s German Carved Oak Gustav Becker Grandfather Clock – Art Deco, Westminster

This handsome 1920s Gustav Becker grandfather clock exemplifies German Art Deco craftsmanship from the renowned Freiburg factory. The oak case is richly carved with floral and geometric motifs, topped with an arched bonnet and concave glass above the dial. The lower door features beveled glass panels, elegantly displaying the three embossed cylindrical brass weights and matching brass pendulum. Original period proportions and decorative elements remain intact, making this a fine representation of Becker’s work during the interwar years, when the company’s tall‑case clocks balanced ornamental appeal with precise engineering.

Housed within is the celebrated Gustav Becker P112 movement, marked with the crown‑over‑anchor trademark, operating via a brass chain‑driven, weight‑powered system. This eight‑day movement plays the Westminster chime on each quarter‑hour and strikes the hours, a testament to Becker’s reputation for quality. Collectors value these P112‑equipped clocks for their reliable performance and elegant presence, while decorators appreciate their ability to serve as a functional statement piece. This example retains its original case, glass, and movement, offering both historical authenticity and timeless style.

Condition:
Good overall. Previous repair to the door. Brass elements show light tarnish consistent with age. Chime and movement are intact and functional.
