Description

Van Briggle Art Pottery Vase Pair – Turquoise Blue, Signed, Arts & Crafts Era

Pair of signed Van Briggle art pottery vases from Colorado Springs, Colorado, showcasing the company’s celebrated matte turquoise glaze—a hallmark of American Arts & Crafts pottery. Founded in 1901 by Artus Van Briggle and Anne Louise Gregory, the studio perfected a soft matte finish inspired by lost Ming Dynasty glazing techniques, quickly earning international acclaim. The impressed “AA” logo seen on these vases represents Artus and Anne and is a sought-after mark among collectors.

The larger vase (8.5″ H × 4.5″ dia.) features a tapered cylindrical form with bold stylized geometric and floral relief decoration. The smaller bulbous vase (2″ H × 3″ dia.) embodies a minimalist organic shape, relying on pure form and glaze for impact. Both pieces reflect Van Briggle’s mastery of form and color blending—subtle gradients of turquoise and blue merging seamlessly across their surfaces.

Early Van Briggle works, especially those bearing both the AA mark and incised “Van Briggle Colo Spgs CO” signature, are prized for their craftsmanship and historic significance. These vases make an exceptional addition to any collection of early 20th-century American art pottery.

Condition:
Good condition overall. Larger vase shows some minor surface wear but no chips, cracks, or damage. Smaller vase displays fine glaze crazing typical of age. Both retain excellent color and display beautifully.

Dimensions:

  • Large vase: 8.5″ height × 4.5″ diameter — weight 1 lb 14.1 oz
  • Small vase: 2″ height × 3″ diameter — weight 3.8 oz
