Description

Daryl Howard “In the Moment Before I Enter… I Am Summoned by the Bells” Woodblock Print — 9/50, 2011

Limited edition Japanese-style woodblock print by American artist Daryl Howard (b. 1949), titled In the Moment Before I Enter… I Am Summoned by the Bells. Numbered 9/50 lower left, pencil-signed and dated ’11 lower right, and bearing the artist’s red seal. This contemplative composition depicts a sunlit stone arcade, its rhythmic arches casting patterned shadows along the walkway, lined with potted flowers. Inscribed with Howard’s poetic caption across the lower margin.

Howard is celebrated for her fusion of traditional mokuhanga (woodblock) techniques—learned during her apprenticeship under Japanese master Hodaka Yoshida—with contemporary Western subject matter. She uses handmade Japanese papers and layered pigments to create works of striking depth and meditative quality. Her prints are held in private and public collections worldwide and have been exhibited extensively.

Elegantly framed with linen matting behind glass.
