Zarebski Artesanía Prehispánica Aztec-Style Crushed Stone Bookends – Gilt Accents
Pair of mid‑century Mexican bookends attributed to Michael Anthony Zarebski’s Artesanía Prehispánica workshop in Cuernavaca, Morelos. Each features a seated Aztec‑style figure with elaborate feathered headdress and ceremonial regalia, intricately rendered in a composite of crushed green stone and resin, emulating malachite and turquoise mosaic. Hand‑painted gilt accents highlight jewelry and symbolic motifs. Felt covers the base and back for surface protection, with one retaining its original “Hecho en México” label. Solid and weighty, these bookends serve both as functional supports and striking decorative art, reflecting the mid‑20th‑century revival of pre‑Hispanic forms in Mexican folk art.
Condition:
Good condition overall with age‑appropriate wear to the felt bases and backs. Gilt accents remain vibrant; minor surface wear consistent with age and handling.
Dimensions:
Each: 8 x 7 x 3.5 inches
Weight overall: 12 lbs
