Artist Biography: Gunther R. Granget (1932–2010)
German sculptor Gunther R. Granget was born in Karlsruhe in 1932 and became renowned for his commitment to realism and naturalistic depictions of wildlife, particularly horses. Educated at the Karlsruhe Academy of Fine Arts, Granget initially focused on porcelain and later wood carving, developing his extraordinary ability to capture anatomical accuracy and expressive motion.
A 1967 study trip in the U.S. and Canada—funded by Lorenz Hutschenreuther AG—deepened his understanding of North American fauna and inspired a distinguished series of limited-edition sculptures produced through several esteemed European manufacturers. In his later years, Granget collaborated with major names in the industry, including Hutschenreuther, Rosenthal, Goebel, and Anri, designing both commissioned and stock works that captured the elegance and spirit of animals in motion.
