Vintage Cobalt Glass Claret Jug
Striking cobalt blue glass claret jug with ornate silver plate overlay in the Art Nouveau style, likely German in origin, circa early 20th century. The upper body features finely detailed repoussé silverwork with an elegant fleur-de-lis and foliate motif in a pierced trellis pattern. A hinged silver lid, scalloped rim, and fluted handle complete the design. A pictorial hallmark appears below the handle, suggesting a possible attribution to one of the noted German overlay workshops such as Friedrich Deusch or Spahr.
The vivid cobalt glass contrasts beautifully with the aged silver tone, making this a highly decorative and collectible piece. The workmanship and materials are consistent with quality German overlay production from the Jugendstil era. Whether used as a decanter or displayed as a decorative accent, this jug is a fine example of early 20th-century Continental craftsmanship.
Condition:
In good condition with age-appropriate wear. The silver plating shows areas of light tarnish, surface scratches, and a slightly uneven patina, all consistent with its age. The glass is vibrant and intact with no chips or cracks. Some shelf wear is visible at the base. We have left polishing to the buyer’s discretion.
