1893‑L Queen Victoria Gold Sovereign – London Mint
Issued in 1893 by the London Mint, this gold sovereign marks the first year of Queen Victoria’s distinguished “Veiled Head” coinage, designed by Thomas Brock. The obverse presents the mature portrait of the Queen in diadem and veil, while the reverse carries Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic depiction of St. George on horseback slaying the dragon. The “L” mintmark denotes its London origin, placing it at the heart of the British Empire’s coin production during Victoria’s reign.
