Framed Cultured Pearl Growth Display — Japan, 1 Month to 3 Years
A vintage Japanese educational display illustrating the growth of cultured pearls over time, mid-20th century. This framed piece presents oyster shell cross-sections and pearls at 1 month, 6 months, 2 years, and 3 years, each stage clearly labeled. Displays like this were often produced by Japanese pearl farms to showcase the meticulous process of pearl cultivation, making them sought-after collectibles. The shells display a striking natural iridescence, complemented by pearls in soft cream and silver tones. Its 8¼" x 10⅛" frame makes it ideal for wall mounting or tabletop display, serving as both a decorative and educational piece. Comparable examples have been associated with Akoya pearl farms and mid-century promotional exhibits.
Condition:
Good condition overall, with no damage to the shells or pearls. There is a minor, nearly imperceptible scuff on the wooden frame, consistent with age.
