Antique J. & P. Coats Oak Spool Cabinet – 5 Drawer Store Display
A genuine late 19th to early 20th-century J. & P. Coats spool cabinet, crafted in oak with five shallow drawers, originally used in general stores to display and organize thread. This finely constructed piece features a warm, aged patina, decorative brass rosette pulls, and original gilt-painted labels reading “J. & P. Coats,” “Colors,” “White,” “Spool Cotton for Hand & Machine,” and “Best Six Cord.” One side panel showcases an inlaid advertising medallion reading “J. & P. Coats 200 Yds Best Six Cord 50,” a striking design that enhances its collectible appeal.
These cabinets were supplied to mercantile shops as promotional displays, making surviving examples with original graphics highly desirable among collectors of advertising antiques and sewing memorabilia. This piece combines authenticity, storage functionality, and historical charm, making it an ideal addition to a vintage sewing room, craft display, or country store collection.
Condition:
Good, with age-appropriate wear. Some trim separation is present on the front and rear lower trim. There are old repairs, specifically, the lower rear trim is not original. Wear to painted drawer labels as expected for age. All drawers slide smoothly, one has been re-worked.
