Late 19th C. English Jacobean Revival Carved Tiger Oak Hutch – Gothic-Inspired, 2-Piece
This late 19th-century English hutch is a striking example of Jacobean Revival craftsmanship with Gothic-inspired detailing, constructed from richly grained quartersawn tiger oak. The carving throughout is bold and well-executed, featuring deeply incised floral panels, scrolling accents, and geometric framing that enhance the cabinet’s architectural silhouette. A commanding broken pediment crest crowns the top, adding height and grandeur.
The upper section includes two removable and fully adjustable shelves supported by a sawtooth system, set against a beveled panel back. The lower cabinet doors feature richly carved motifs and brass hardware, opening to concealed storage (bottom shelves are absent). The quality of the hand-carving, combined with the ray-flaked grain of tiger oak, highlights the exceptional craftsmanship typical of English furniture from circa 1880–1900.
A functional yet decorative piece, it works as a display hutch, bar cabinet, or bookcase, blending historic character with versatile modern utility.
Condition:
Good overall with age-appropriate wear, minor chips, finish loss, and light surface scratches. Lower shelves are absent, and splits are present on both sides of the base (old, stable). The cabinet remains structurally sound, with doors and adjustable shelving functioning well.
