Large Talavera Mexican Tile Mural – 35 Tiles, Village Scene, 31" x 23"
Vibrant hand-painted Talavera tile mural featuring a detailed Mexican village scene, composed of 35 glazed ceramic tiles (5 x 7 layout). Rendered in rich folkloric colors, the scene depicts colonial-era buildings, domed churches, mountains, native flora, and everyday life—complete with villagers, animals, and a radiant sun overhead. A classic cobalt blue rope border frames the composition, enhancing its visual balance and regional character.
Mounted on Masonite and set in a rustic wood frame, this piece was likely crafted in Mexico in the mid-to-late 20th century, drawing from the decorative tile traditions of Puebla or Dolores Hidalgo. Talavera murals like this were popular in haciendas, kitchens, and courtyards, prized for their artistry and cultural warmth. With its large scale and expressive design, this example serves as a bold and authentic wall accent.
Condition:
In fair condition overall. Six tiles show cracks or chips, mainly in the upper portion near the sun. Some paint loss and surface flaking are visible. The wooden frame is sturdy, with age-appropriate scuffs. Despite flaws, the mural remains visually compelling and stable for display.
