Dual Fish Harmony, Guna Mola Shadowbox 22″ × 24″
This vibrant Guna mola textile, handcrafted by the Guna (Kuna) women of Panama and Colombia, is a striking expression of cultural identity and visual storytelling. Presented in a black shadowbox-style frame with suede-style matting, the piece features a mirrored dual-fish motif—a traditional symbol of balance, unity, and the dual nature of life. Rendered in vibrant red, orange, blue, and green on a deep burgundy background, the design reflects both artistic mastery and spiritual meaning.
Created using the reverse appliqué technique, multiple layers of fabric are cut and stitched by hand to form complex, harmonious patterns. The vibrant filler motifs surrounding the fish are known in Guna tradition to represent cosmic energy, daily life, and ancestral wisdom. Each mola is a wearable artwork, originally sewn onto blouses and now widely collected as textile art for its beauty and cultural resonance.
A meaningful and colorful artifact of Indigenous heritage, this framed mola adds visual depth and cultural richness to any collection.
