Description

Set of 3 Navajo Sandpaintings by Beverly Begay — Whirling Yei, Moon, Hunch Back

Offered here is a compelling set of three framed Navajo sandpaintings by Beverly Begay, a recognized Diné (Navajo) artist known for honoring traditional ceremonial themes through fine sand artistry. The set includes Whirling Yei, Moon, and Hunch Back, each titled and signed on the back and rendered in natural sandstone and mineral pigments.

These pieces reflect the sacred Navajo healing tradition of sandpainting, in which symbolic figures are created by medicine men to aid in spiritual restoration. The imagery is carefully composed to echo ceremonial motifs, such as Yei figures and elemental spirits. While traditional sandpaintings are meant to be temporary and used in ritual, commercial forms like these—crafted respectfully—preserve cultural symbolism as collectible works of art.

Each piece is double-matted in layered tones that enhance the earthy palette and mounted in solid wood frames. All bear printed or handwritten descriptions on the reverse, consistent with other works attributed to Beverly (and sometimes Raynard) Begay, whose sandpaintings are widely recognized for their authenticity and artistry.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire culturally significant Native American artwork with strong provenance and visual presence.

Condition

In good condition overall. No damage to the artwork or matting. The frames are clean and structurally sound with minor surface wear from handling. Please note these are not glazed (no glass). All documentation and signatures are visible on the back, as shown in the photos.
