R.S. Silver Alabaster Bear Fetish with Kokopelli
Carved by Navajo artist Richard “R.S.” Silver of Mimbres, New Mexico, this striking bear fetish is rendered in banded cream-to-russet alabaster and signed R. S Silver on the underside of one foot. One flank is intricately incised and lime-filled with a dynamic Kokopelli figure—spiral belly, flute, and zig-zag kilt—framed by triangular arrow points and lightning motifs; matching geometrics accent the arched back. A single dot eye and elongated snout complete the stylised form. Measuring seven inches long yet under two pounds, the sculpture bridges contemporary studio carving with Southwestern fetish tradition, making an engaging accent for Native-style art collections or rustic décor. (Soup can shown in photo for scale; can not included.)
Condition
Good overall. Small chip at tail edge and scattered light rubs from handling; incised pigment bright, no structural cracks or repairs observed. See photos for detail.
