“Ogre” Kachina Doll by Largo – Navajo Carver, Hand Carved, Fur & Feather Detail
This hand-carved Ogre Kachina doll is signed “By Largo” on the underside—attributed to a Navajo artist known for producing dynamic Hopi-style ceremonial figures in the mid- to late-20th century. Representing one of the fierce midwinter enforcers of Hopi lore, this Ogre doll features a fearsome open mouth with carved teeth, expressive eyes, and high-contrast painted horns. The body is accented in traditional white pigment markings over a red-stained base.
The figure is richly adorned with real fur, white feathers, leather fringe, and red yarn hair, adding dramatic texture and ceremonial realism. A boldly painted front skirt and headdress complete the commanding composition. Largo’s work is known for its elaborate, multi-material embellishment and visual presence—hallmarks of Navajo craftsmanship responding to Hopi tradition.
Ideal for collectors of Native American art, especially those drawn to vivid, mid-century ceremonial figures with sculptural energy.
