Kweo (Wolf) Kachina by Paja (Jemez) — 23" Wool-on-Hide, Burl Wood Base
This commanding, handcrafted Kachina doll represents Kweo, the Wolf spirit, and is signed by renowned Jemez Pueblo artist Paja. Measuring 23 inches tall and mounted on a sculptural burl wood base, the figure is made with traditional materials: hand-painted wood, real wool still attached to natural hide, feathers, yarn, and jingle bells.
In Pueblo and Hopi traditions, Kweo is a powerful hunter and protector spirit, symbolizing endurance, instinct, and loyalty. This figure’s snarling expression, full wool covering, and layered ceremonial elements embody that energy. The underside of the base is inscribed “Kweo the Wolf” and signed “Paja”, confirming both the subject and maker.
Condition:
In good condition overall. The wool-on-hide remains intact and full; painted features are crisp and vibrant. The right arm is slightly loose but holds position securely for display. Some expected feather fray and light wear to the base consistent with age.

23 x 12 x 8 inches (Height x Width x Depth)
